I read this article in Forbes Magazine. The issue where they talk about the 400 richest people in the world. You know, the billionaires. I found the magazine interesting. What grabbed me most had nothing to do with who was worth what. There was an article written in the magazine that caught my eye. It made me think. There was a story written about how schools like Harvard, Princeton, Yale, always seem to be getting massive amounts of money donated to their schools. These rich billionaires have a tendency to donate large sums of money to them. Which is fine. But then the article went on to talk about how large sums of money never get donated to lesser known schools or less prestigious schools.
I found this point interesting actually. Schools like Harvard are loaded with money. They have buckets of it and there are schools that are on the verge of going under because they don’t have enough capitol in their piggy banks.
Sad. Perhaps a program for ALL schools can be developed, if it isn’t already, to have these wonderful donations spread across evenly and strategically, for the overall benefit of our country’s educational system.
This may be a great tactic to help cater to ALL students in pursuit of academic achievement. The money given can greatly affect and shape the values our education system holds dear. Granted, there may be a certain perspective the elite may have, that they may feel their money should go only to “the best”. Well, my question to them is, what best? A student is a student is a student….the more we work together to build and expand the education system in our country, not for select groups or political reasons but for the good of our country, than perhaps we will move forward and keep The American Dream alive.
