Monologue Description: “T.V. Drama” is about a couple who needs space form one another.
Character Description: Joe talks to his girlfriend of five years about how he needs to spend time alone every once in awhile. In this monologue, he tries his best to make her understand his need.
JOE:
You don’t ever leave me alone! I need space! How many times…do I have to beg for it, is that what I need to do…BEG? Do-I-Have-to-BEG-you-for-p-r-i-v-a-c-y??! We’re together every single day of every single week of every single month of every single year! SOMETIMES, just sometimes, I could use a little breathing room so I don’t have a panic attack because I feel smothered to death.
Is that so much to ask for Lorraine? Is it? Come on babe. (beat) What? (beat) There is nothing to get insulted about. We’ve been together for five years now. Nothings changed. All I’m saying is that I need to spend time alone once in awhile. What’s so bad about that? I think it’s healthy. I think it’s a sign of a healthy relationship.
I mean, come on, go out with the girls once in awhile. Call up Fran and Rachel and Lara and Farah and GO OUT! Go out and get drunk! It will feel good.
We can’t be up eachothers asses all day every day babe. It’s not good. Sometimes I think I can go crazy. It’s not you! I just need to unwind once in a blue moon. Okay? Do you think we can try that out, without making this a t.v. drama???
