Monologue Description: “A Soft Word” is about the aftermath of admitting you love someone.

Character Description: In this monologue, Jacob has just confessed his love for his best friend Elaine.

JACOB:

What do you want me to say? Huh? I spoke the truth and said what I needed to say. There is nothing else Elaine. I poured my heart out to you. I pushed pride aside and took a chance. I gave you all of me. What more can I say?The rest is up to you. The ball is in your court. Decisions yours. Take your time. I don’t expect a miracle but I expect something from you. An explanation maybe. A soft word. Anything. But something. You know, looking into your eyes now, makes me feel out of control. I feel a billion different things. Yet, I’m completely calm on the outside.(raises his hand)Look how steady my hand is…And I haven’t even drank tonight.
