“Contemplating Van Gogh” (drama) 1-2 Minutes

Monologue Description: “Cotemplating Van Gogh” is about thinking about killing yourself.

Character Description: In this monologue, Theo talks to a friend about how he has a weird connection to Vincent Van Gogh. Theo has been contemplating suicide and this is his way of indirectly communicating that to his friend.

THEO:

I have cotton mouth so bad that it feels like someone else is talking. I’m like, mmmrrrrr mrrrrrr mrrrrrrr. It’s the weirdest shit. It’s like I’m watching myself speak. It’s as if I am a stranger to myself. Ever feel that? Ever feel like, I don’t know, like, separated from youself? Ever look at yourself in a mirror and have no fucking idea who is staring back? Yeah, it’s fucked up.

I was just looking through one of my favorite artsts, Vincent Van Gogh and something eerie happened. If I were to ever kill myself, cause I’ve given it some thought…I always imagined myself, shooting myself. I was just thinking about this recently.  So I’m going through this Van Goh book that I have and I stumble upon this page towards the end of the book and I come to find out that Van Gogh shot himself on my birthday. Isn’t that crazy? He didn’t die until two days later. He shot himself right in the chest and died with his brother next to him.

Just a strange coincidence in my crazy ass mind. And I’m not saying that I’m Vincent Van Fucking Gogh alright. I’m just saying that it’s a cool connection I can have with him being a fellow artist.Ha Ha. If I were to ever do it, which I won’t but…if I was to ever do something like that, I would do it on March 30th, the day he was born..just to get him back. Ha Ha.

(beat)

You ever have a strange connection like that?
