Monologue Description: “Gay Boy” is about a homosexual who has the bravery to stand up for himself.

Character Description: In this monologue, Mica gets made fun of in a street in New York while hanging out with his younger brother.

MICA:

(responding to men laughing in the street)

That’s right I SAID IT!

I AM A BIG FAT FUCKING FAG! Shout it out with me and let the world know!!! What’s the matter honeys, are you all afraid of your sexuality?! YOU’RE the real fag! Yeah, YOU!!!

That’s right. I am gay as they come fuckers. So stop staring because you know you want this. Yeah, okay honey…you know you want this!

(walks away)

Sons of bitches. You see Charles, this is what I have to deal with because I am man enough to be who I am. I don’t need to hide in the closet. I am a proud gay man and no amount of chuckles or slang is ever going to take that away from me. My identity is my life, without it, I would perish. I can’t believe we still live in a world where sexual preferance is still scolded upon.

It doesn’t make me a bad person. I’m not a bad person.

(pause)

I’m sorry if you are ashamed of me Charles. I’m sorry that your big brother is a big flame. I wish I was the big brother who was able to go out and have a catch with you once in awhile or go to see a hockey game or whatever it is you straight men do. But I’m not that Charles. I’m into Prada. I’m me. I can’t even throw a ball right without humiliating myself. I wish I could. I didn’t ask to be this way but it’s how God made me and I’m special for it. I take it and I stand by it.

(beat)
