Monologue Description: “Eastern Airlines” is about a flight that almost cost everyone their lives.
Character Description: In this monologue, Kirk talks to his friend about why he is scared to fly in airplanes.
KIRK:
I was a kid. Must have been I’d say about sevenish. I was sleeping on my mother’s lap when I suddenly woke up to screams and violent vibrations. When I popped my head up, my mother clutched me close to her chest. My face was staring out the window when I witnessed a lightning bolt hit the wing of the plane.
To my disbelief the plane’s wing was on fire. People surrounding me began screaming wildly and jumping up and down from there seats. I watched as oxygen masks were released from the celing above the seats. An old man who sat next to my mother and me was bent over in his chair praying outloud to God.
My mother kept telling me that it was alright, that we were going to be okay. With that, my stomach felt like it went into my throat as the plane began dropping rapidly towards the Earth.
I held onto my mother as tight as I could.
We made it to the runway for a crash landing and everyone on the plane lived to tell their version of the near death experience.
