THE HOMELESS DRUG ADDICT WOMAN:
(to the man behind the counter)

(counts)
Forty-five, Ssssssssixty, Ssssssssseventy, Eiiiiighty-Five….shit…oh shit, I’m short fifteen cents. Fifteen cents, shit. Ummmm, can, ummm, can I, can you, um…
(asks man standing next to her)
You got fifteen cents sir? No? You don’t have fifteen cents??
(beat)
(back to man at counter)
Ummm, sorry, I thought I had enough with me but I’m…
Oh, I will, sure, sorry, I’ll take my money…you know, you couldn’t, uh, umm, fifteen cents?
No, well, okay, I got it all. I got it. I got my money. I’ll be back.
(smiles weakly and shrugs her shoulders)
(she walks quickly out of the place)
