“Not Together” (drama) 1 Minute

homelessman.jpgMonologue Description: “Not Together” is a monologue story in regards to homelessness.

Character Description: In this monologue,  Denny notices that the homeless man who normally hassles him for money when he picks up his bagel and coffee, is not there.  He circles around a corner and approaches a dumpster, where he sees the homeless man standing with his back to Denny.  The homeless man is leaned up against the dumpster.

DENNY:

Why do you always have to bother me for money?  I’ve never given you a dime and you still continue to bother me.  You know, I get my bagel and my coffee like it’s some sort of ritual, every morning, at the same exact time.  When I come out, you are always there waiting for me, to ask me for money.  I’ve never given you any.

Today was the first day you weren’t there and I realized how much a part of my routine you have become.  Not seeing you there kind of made me feel empty.  I can’t explain it, sort of like, not together…

Well, I walked around this way in order to see if I could find you.  Luckily I have and I want to ask you if there is anything I can do for you today?  Anything at all.  Is there anything, anything that I can do for you to help you on?

(beat)

Hello?  Hello?

(looks at the homeless man’s face on closer inspection and he realizes that the man is dead)

Oh.

(sighs)
