Monologue Description: “Buying Jeans” is a drama about a man who hasn’t bought clothes for himself in over a decade.
Character Description: In this monologue, Jay talks to his friend about how happy it made him to go out to a store and purchase a pair of jeans for himself.
JAY:
I went out and bought myself a pair of jeans today. I never felt so good. I haven’t bought a pair of jeans or any kind of clothing for that matter in over ten years. Isn’t that something? All my money has always gone to my wife and kids. I know it’s only a pair of jeans but when a man can walk into a store and actually by a piece of clothing for himself, it makes him feel good.
Imagine if it was a suit? That’s next. One day I want to walk into an expensive place and buy up all the suits, one in every color. I’ve always fantasized about being a man who can do that. Have my hair all slicked up like Matthew McConaughey in that scene from that movie “Two For The Money”, when he is getting fitted for an expensive suit. One time I freeze framed the shot and tried picturing myself being up on the screen. I always imagined myself being that type of guy.
My whole life, I’ve never had a pot to piss in and I’ve always struggled. Now that I am separated from my wife and I see my kids every two weeks, I am going to try once and for all, to do what’s right for me in my life.
