Monologue Description: “DROWN OUT THE DEAD” is a drama about how a teenage boy enjoys vandalizing a cemetery. This teenager likes to turn on the water spouts causing flooding in certain parts of the cemetery.
Character Description: In this monologue, Gator, is the cemetery caretaker. He is a big man who wears a bandana, sunglasses, beard and black leather vest, jeans and boots. He speaks with a hoarse voice and loves puffing on his pipe. Gator talks to a newly hired cemetery worker and explains his plan for preventing this teenage boy from coming back to the cemetery.
GATOR:
Now listen here, when that little shit head come back here, I want you to plug ‘em. Sit there in my pick up and as soon as you see him pass on his bike—plug ‘em…ya hear? Plug ‘em hard. But don’t kill ‘em see. Don’t. When you got ‘em pinned under the truck, I’ll come around from the back…I’ll hide behind Meyer’s Grave Stone and I’ll be carrying my pitch fork.
Gonna put it right to that boy’s adam’s apple. I won’t penetrate. He’ll be warned not to drown out the dead ever again…
