Monologue Description: “TOUGH OR DANGEROUS” is about trying to make a point without getting into a physical fight.
Character Description: In this monologue, Mark talks to his stepson about the pros and cons of “being tough”. Mark has a rocky relationship with his stepson who in fact wants to fight Mark in their backyard after Mark asks his stepson to mow the lawn.
MARK:
What do you think, because I’m well groomed I can’t fight? Because I dress classy and behave well mannered, I have no balls? Because I don’t have any tattoos, or walk with a limp, or don’t dress like everybody else, that I’m not down?
Let me tell you about me. I’m a leader, not a follower. I play by my own rules, make my own choices, be who I choose to be. I set my own trends, do my own thing and BE ME.
Can I scrap? Sure. I have more war stories in my treasure chest of war stories that I am way too humble to admit. I’ve dealt with more crap that you wish you could come close to living, because in your eyes that makes you tough. That’s not what tough is pal. You wanna know what tough is? Tough is not having to act tough. Tough is being humble. Not bragging, not walking around with a chip on your shoulder, being a gentleman, handling your business without anyone else knowing about your business. That’s tough.
What do you do when you have a problem, eh? You call your boys, right? Am I right? Yeah, you call your boys…You know who I call…MYSELF. That makes me a dangerous man my friend…not a tough one.
So, if you want to step to me, then get steppin’ and let’s make a few discoveries about one another in the next few seconds. Let’s see what those tattoos and bad attitude are going to do for you against a punk like me.

Monologue Description: “MEET THE KIDS” is a drama about a man who believes he found “the one” woman in his life whom he wants to be with for the rest of his days but he hasn’t met her kids.
Character Description: In this monologue, GARY talks to his father about the uncertainty he feels with meeting his girlfriend’s children.
GARY:
I’m afraid to meet her kids. I’m only twenty eight years old and…I just don’t—I know I think I found her, the one…I think she may be the one, the one that I want to be with for the rest of my life but…I haven’t met her kids yet. She has three. Three children ages seven, nine and ten.
(sighs)
I know by meeting her kids it really makes things serious. Not that they haven’t been but it’s a big step towards REALLY being together. Not sure I’m ready for it, for this stuff.
Not sure if it’s the right time. I mean, it’s like I’m becoming a father without going through the process of being a father. Is it too much Dad? Do you think—am I making the right decision by meeting her kids now?
I know I love her Dad. She’s the greatest. You and Mom are really fond of her. She’s been patient, perhaps too patient with allowing me not to meet her kids for so long but I know she means business. If I don’t meet her children sooner or later, I know she won’t want to take things further and I understand and respect that.
I don’t want to lose her because I’m chicken. I don’t know, I feel like I’m gonna go from being twenty eight to thirty eight as soon as I make eye contact with them.
It’s wrong of me to think this way right Dad? I need to man up if I truly love her. And I do, I am in love with this woman.
Do you think things will turn out alright? What do you think I should do?
