Monologue Description: “IN THE END” is a drama about a man who is fed up with the people who run corporate America.
Character Description: In this monologue, Marlon denounces corporate America. He speaks to his friend about how he is making his own sacrifices in order to get ahead and make his vision of a better world a reality.
MARLON:
Everybody likes to play hardball. It’s just the way the economy is built. It’s the way we are as a people. Money hungry, power hungry…
I’ve seen the best of humanity and the worst of humanity. The vast population of us all somehow fall into the center.
Sometimes you need to do bad things to get ahead, in order to then be able to deliver the good things you envision. Not so sure I agree with my own statement but it’s what I’ve come to understand based on my experiences and how I must play the game in order to win.
I’m tired of being a nice guy all the time. I always have good faith in people. I believe in people. It just seems to me that it gets harder and harder for us all to stay true to the things that should really matter, to the things that should make life important.
Nobody is perfect, we all make mistakes but greed and a heavy heart does not add to the value of human beings…
So, I’ve decided to play their game, in order to play my game and make things better…I only hope that it will be worth it in the end.
