Monologue Description: ”It Happened By Accident” is a monologue about controlling sexual desire. Mr. Hammond is having a session with his Psychologist.

Character Description: Mr. Hammond is a good man but he does, like all of us, have his flaws. Mr. Hammond is an accountant for a big firm in Boston. He’s recently divorced and has a three year old daughter. He is a very calm and deliberate man. Not one to ever raise his voice when under extreme anger or frustration.

MB TIP: The topic of interest here in this monologue is SEX. It is important for the actor to tap into his own sexual desires and find the playing field to express those desires within this piece.

MR. HAMMOND:

I watch her. I watch her from my bedroom window. She doesn’t see me, at least, I don’t think she sees me. I watch her usually at night when she gets home. I have a pair of binoculars that I use, from when I was in the military.

It happened by accident. I noticed a light on in the backyard. Well, you know how some houses are here in Boston…backyards connect to other backyards from houses around the block. So, you can see the back of houses.

Well, I was listening to music one night in my bedroom and something made me look to my right and that’s when I first noticed her. Beautiful. Stunning girl.

I realized she was very young, at least, younger than someone closer to my age that I would date. She had to be about seventeen. It turns out later I found out she is seventeen. Just a baby.

(beat)

So I watched her from that point on. At first I tried to ignore her. At first, I knew she was young and I didn’t want to be bothered. But, the moment I took my binoculars to peer in at her, she happened to get undressed. She took off her top and all she had on was her panties. And this is a very sexy, very attractive young lady, so I kept watching.

Well, a few days went by and I saw her light on again and I grabbed my binoculars and watched her get naked and go to bed. Every night thereafter I watch her undress and go to sleep.

This is how it all started.

One day, I happened to go to a Cafe, a Cafe that my friend owns locally and it turns out that she frequents the store. She knows everybody by name ect. We were introduced because I happened to be there when she came walking in.

Now, I am a thirty six year old divorced man with a three year old daughter. My mind—I could not imagine what I would do to a man who was a peeping tom if the shoe was on the other foot—if a man was watching my own daughter so to speak.

(beat)

Here I am feeling like a dirty old man.

I feel it’s wrong.

Since then, I have seen her more often at the Cafe. Her name is Clea. Not a familiar name at all but it’s pretty. CLEA. We’ve become somewhat of a friendly item but I can see that she has a crush on me and I won’t deny my attraction for her.

I guess, I am here talking to you about this because I don’t want to take things further with her for fear of the age difference and it’s the last thing I need in my life, to look like some sort of pedophile or something like that.

I need advice, I need to stop my urges before they get worse, before I do something I regret with this girl. How do I put a stop to this?

Please, help me.

There’s one more thing…I gave her a lift home the other night. Nothing happened but it opened up a doorway for me with her and I am afraid I may walk through it. I don’t want to but I also do wish to.

How do I close that door?
