Monologue Description: ”Parking Lot” is a serio-comedy about prom woes.

Character Description: In this monologue, Cindy begins by talking to her best friend Leila about how disappointed she is that Ryan never asked her to the prom. When Ryan shows up, she find out that he actually does in fact like her. The action for this monologue takes place outside in the school parking lot.

CINDY:

(Cindy consults with her best friend Leila)

I don’t understand. He always talks to me, he always jokes around with me, making me think he likes me all this time…I thought he did, I thought him and I would…I don’t know, start dating or something.

(beat)

I was so surprised when he told me he wanted to take Gilda to the prom. I was shocked. I don’t understand guys.

(beat)

Oh my God, here he comes now. Shhh!

(beat)

Hi Ryan, what’s up? Talk to me, alone? Sure.

(to Leila)

Just give me a minute Leila and then we’ll go home.

(to Ryan)

What’s up?

(pause)

I don’t know what to say. I thought you wanted to take Gilda. Ummm, well, YEAH! I’d like to be your date for the prom. I think we’d have a nice time. Okay, call me later then. Bye.

(going back to her friend Leila)

(excitedly)

Leila! Shhh! Shhh! You will not believe this! Ryan was joking. The whole time. He just told me that he likes me and that the only reason why he mentioned that he wanted to take out Gilda was because he wanted to see if I would be upset. He wanted to know if I liked him, too! He asked me to the prom! Oh my–I’m so excited!

(she starts singing)

Going to the prom with Ryan! Going to the prom with Ryan!
