Master of My Emotions

In Master of My Emotions, Rodney talks to a friend about the effort he has made to improve his life by staying calm and never overreacting.

RODNEY:  I’ll tell you something real…I have a rage in me.  Been battling it my whole life.  In my younger years I was wild…wouldn’t think twice about getting into it with anyone at anytime and believe me, I have the battle scars to prove it all over my body, all over my heart.

Doesn’t that make me sound ignorant?

At some point I woke up to the fact that I was acting like a crying child, rather than a man with integrity.

How can any man expect to have influence and be respected if he carries himself in life like a boy?

I flipped the program given to me and am master of my emotions.  I am refined and I am restrained in the face of difficult situations.  It has taken me years to get to this point in my life and I am constantly keeping myself level headed.

There are times when I am proud of who I am in bad situations because I remember not too long ago how I used to react…I’ve come far but I have much further to go.

Having emotional control is one of the greatest gifts I have given myself and to the people I love most.
