The Meaning Behind It

In this monologue, CARLO talks to a friend about a troubling dream like state he found himself trapped in the night before.

CARLO:  It was really strange.  Last night, I couldn’t sleep, I was caught in some kind of brain warp…not sure what the proper name would be for it but I’ll try to describe it to you…I–ACTUALLY, it was as if I was stuck in a video game, watching myself through the perspective of the character I was playing…and…I had a gun and the game was trying to close in on me, sort of like folding in on me, three dimensionally.  I kept shooting the walls of the game to keep them open but whenever I stopped firing, the walls would suddenly begin to quiver and close in on me again.  They wouldn’t stop, so I was forced to maintain my gun fire.  I couldn’t get out and I was under a lot of emotional stress.  I remember thinking that all I wanted to do was GET OUT.  Once things got too intense for me, I woke up and realized I was not fully dreaming but sort of slipping into a dream state.  The whole experience was really strange and troubling.  I’m still trying to figure out the meaning behind it.
