Dead Man’s Wallet

In the dramatic monologue Dead Man’s Wallet, Cal explains to Kya that his anger overtook his reasoning, causing him to kill someone.

CAL: Kya…I was in a rage…my mind went blank. Everything became fogged. Nothing was clear. I was losing myself…I couldn’t stop myself from feeling…it was…all I heard was the violence; I entered a terrible place within myself, so deafening I couldn’t think, and in that instant I couldn’t stop it; I went through with it. I saw him; I saw him staring right at us in the center of the road, and I hit him. In that moment, everything in me was locked on him. I’m sorry.

Something took me over and drove me to it. After it was done, I felt nothing. The storm in me calmed and all my anger left.

I chose to check on him; he wasn’t breathing, no life but the blood on his-I took his wallet because I wanted to know his name. I needed to know the name of the person I had killed.
