Heard you were here but didn’t believe it.

In the short drama scene from Cowboyville, ex-girlfriend Wendy appears at the pub where Johnny stopped by for a visit.

Enter Wendy.

WENDY: …Hi, Johnny.

JOHNNY: …Hi, Wendy.

WENDY: Heard you were here but didn’t believe it. Thought everyone was playin’ tricks on me.

JOHNNY: How are you?

Johnny hugs Wendy.

WENDY: You look good.

JOHNNY: You look good, too. (beat) Sorry about Ernie. (beat) How’s your mother doing?

WENDY: She hasn’t been the same.

JOHNNY: I found out after the fact, or I would have been here.

WENDY: You didn’t send flowers.

JOHNNY: I’m sorry…

WENDY: At least flowers or a card.

JOHNNY: …I’m really sorry…

WENDY: I forgive you.

JOHNNY: …What are you up to these days?

WENDY: I’m managing the bowling alley, but they’re going to be shuttin’ it down, so…

JOHNNY: It’s closing down?

WENDY: Nobody goes anymore; they want to make it a pharmacy, so…

JOHNNY: A pharmacy?

WENDY: You want to come to the house for dinner? My mother would love to see you. I think it’d be good for her and all. She’s glued to the television, and I swear the only time she perks up is when she sees you on it. (smiles)

JOHNNY: I’m only in town until Thursday.

WENDY: Oh. That’s three whole days till then, right?

JOHNNY: Uh…

WENDY: You don’t have to; I just thought…

JOHNNY: Wouldn’t be, ah, shouldn’t be a problem (sighs) I don’t wanna say no, but my time is thin this week.

WENDY: Thin?

JOHNNY: Not a lot of time.

WENDY: Oh. Right. I understand.

JOHNNY: How about this? How about I call you to confirm Wednesday? Maybe we can do Wednesday.

WENDY: Wednesday?

JOHNNY: Yes. Is that good for—

WENDY: Wednesday’s perfect. I’ll get all the shopping done today and…Johnny?

JOHNNY: Yeah.

WENDY: Are you sure you’ll come visit us for dinner?

JOHNNY: Wendy, I’ll try to break my commitment, okay?

WENDY: You have a commitment?

JOHNNY: I do.

WENDY: And if you can’t break your commitment?

JOHNNY: …Wendy?

WENDY: Yes, Johnny?

JOHNNY: I’ll try.
