MARCUS: Hello, Mrs. Krimley.
MRS. KRIMLEY: Oh! You startled me, Marcus..haha, what on Earth are you doing up there?
MARCUS: Gaining perspective.
MRS. KRIMLEY: Huh?
MARCUS: When you change your vantage point, you tend to see things differently.
MRS. KRIMLEY: Shouldn’t you be off at college?
MARCUS: College? Nah. No. I gave that up.
MRS. KRIMLEY: School?
MARCUS: That’s right.
MRS. KRIMLEY: Whatever for?
MARCUS: Don’t have the brain for it.
MRS. KRIMLEY: You strike me as a bright young man, you shouldn’t say that.
MARCUS: I think it’s important to have an honest opinion of one’s self.
MRS. KRIMLEY: Marcus, would you mind coming down from there? I feel as though you will get hurt.
MARCUS: Aren’t I making you uncomfortable?
MRS. KRIMLEY: Well, you are.
MARCUS: I see.
Marcus jumps down from the brick fence.
Better?
MRS. KRIMLEY: Sure. I’m just watering my plants, and I’ll be off to the market.
MARCUS: Oh, the market. Yeah. How’s Ashton?
MRS. KRIMLEY: Ashton’s good. He’s doing well. Do you keep in touch?
MARCUS: Nah. Not since college. No.
MRS. KRIMLEY: I didn’t know you weren’t attending university. Are your parents okay with it?
MARCUS: Okay, with what?
MRS. KRIMLEY: Okay with you dropping out of study?
MARCUS: (repeating her amusingly to himself) Dropping out of study…hmm…I don’t think they mind much.
MRS. KRIMLEY: How are your mother and father? I haven’t seen them in ages. One would never know we were neighbors. (she laughs) They must be traveling again, I presume?
MARCUS: Traveling? Yeah, something like that.
MRS. KRIMLEY: Have they been keeping well?
MARCUS: As well as can be, under the circumstances.
MRS. KRIMLEY: Circumstances? What circumstances?
MARCUS: What?
MRS. KRIMLEY: You alluded that something may be wrong, with your parents.
MARCUS: Did I? I had no intention of alluding to anything.
MRS. KRIMLEY: But, they are keeping well?
MARCUS: One would hope.
MRS. KRIMLEY: Right…give them my regards, would you?
MARCUS: I’ll try.
MRS. KRIMLEY: I’ll inform Ashton you asked for him?
MARCUS: Don’t have to.
MRS. KRIMLEY: What?
MARCUS: You don’t have to, Mrs. Krimley.
MRS. KRIMLEY: You have always been such good friends, I thought –
MARCUS: It seems as though people grow apart…they do, don’t they?
MRS. KRIMLEY: That’s alright…err, I need to—what will you do now that you aren’t attending college?
MARCUS: Do?
MRS. KRIMLEY: Yes, what will become of you?
MARCUS: Become of me…mmm, probably whatever the f’ck I wanna do with myself, I guess.
