Memory Lane

In the drama monologue, “Memory Lane” Tori shares a memory with a real estate agent while being shown an apartment she once lived in.

TORI: (she walks over to the window again) If I stay much longer, I… I used to stand for hours at this very window, elbows evenly planted, forehead pressed against the glass. Usually when my father would cook us dinner, I’d stare out and try my hardest to find my mother. I believed for the longest time that if I were to locate her, she’d come back. She never did; she couldn’t; she was dead… but, what does a five-year old know about that?

(swiftly) Coincidence? I don’t know if I believe in coincidence as much as I believe in the stars aligning. But, here I am, here we are… memory lane.

Magnificent, how things evolve through time, how memories get misplaced as reality shifts, and all that’s left are mere fragments of our imagination… the small pieces we try so hard to clutch on to for dear life… my father… he was everything to me… and now?… And now…

Yes, a moment more is all I ask… before… just a moment more.
