Crimson

In the drama monologue Crimson, Chuckie offers to make Holly a deal if she’ll go out with him for a cup of coffee.

CHUCKIE: I’ll tell you what. Look at it this way. It’s a public space. There are loads of people at Eugene’s. It’s family-friendly. On a night like this, it’ll be packed. We go there, get to know each other a bit, and it’ll be easy.

In the back of the diner, there’s a hallway where people hang their jackets. On the floor, there’s two tiles. There’s one green tile, and to the left of it is a crimson tile. Follow? When you lift the crimson tile up, there’s an empty spot. I’ll leave the gun there for ya. When you take the gun out, you put the money in the same spot, put the tile over it, and we’re good to go.

It’s a safe exchange. What do you say? (beat) That’s what you want, right? That’s what you’re here for?

One cup of coffee with me is all I ask. It’ll go by fast, since I talk fast, and you might grow to like me. I can be charming, despite this scar on my face. I’m known to bring out a smile in people. At least, brighten them up. I do that. I like doin’ that… lightening people up, even when I’m down. It’s how I’m designed. Even when I don’t wanna be bothered, I’m nice. Unless you cross me. That’s different. Then I’m not so nice. But I like you. I don’t see you being the type of girl that’s gonna cross me…

How you take ya coffee?
