The Time It Takes
In the dramatic monologue from the one-act play The Time It Takes, Freddy approaches Lina outside of the bar she works at.
FREDDY: … I’ve got this rage in me lately. In the center of my chest; it starts in the chest and begins to climb up the side of my neck…throbbing, I feel it clenching and making its way to my jaws…sometimes it’s hard to say a word or get a deep breath. On the worst days, I just wanna burn everything to the ground.
Things get so hard for me; all the pressure, and then I see some beautiful woman like you, working here, and the only thing I can do is have a drink to calm myself down.
Seeing you is like the last thing I can handle ’cause you don’t make no sense from what doesn’t already make sense to me.
You don’t fit in. You should be beyond here. Which is why I’m wondering if you have issues, ’cause if I was smart and pretty like you and kind, I’d have left centuries ago.
