Featured Monologue – The Dance
CHESTER: You don’t make sense to me, and maybe you never will. (beat) We’ve been dating for just about three months now, and all you’ve done is lead me on. You’re always distracted by something else whenever we go out. What do you want me to do? Go back to the party and stomp Tommy’s face in? Would you like me to do that for you? (pause) Seems like you need that kind of excitement. Maybe I need it too. (beat)
I watched you dance because I enjoyed watching you. I liked seeing you have a good time, being free, full of laughter, and expressive…the way I wish I could be.
Maybe you’re right…maybe I need to let myself go and dive into the madness you seem to imagine I can’t throw myself into.
I’ll tell you something now Elsie, when I jump, I might not stop falling, and not you or anybody else is gonna be able to save me falling.
