FADE IN.
INT. REBECCA’S BEDROOM – AFTERNOON
Rebecca is busy playing her flute. There’s a knock on the door and Uncle Harold enters.
HAROLD: Rebecca, you can’t keep playing your flute all day, each day. I’m liable to have cardiac arrest.
REBECCA: You can’t just enter my room like that.
HAROLD: I’m sorry, but there has to be a limitation to high pitched flute playing.
REBECCA: You said that I can play as often as I wish, and I am choosing to play as often as I wish.
HAROLD: It was a figure of speech. It doesn’t mean I was actually encouraging you to play fiddle diddle all day long.
REBECCA: Well, you figured wrong.
Harold wiggles his ear with his finger.
HAROLD: There has to be a rule set in place. Perhaps we can schedule out a day and time for your practice.
REBECCA: That’s horrible.
HAROLD: What’s horrible?
REBECCA: How do you ever expect me to get good at playing the flute if you are going to set restrictions.
HAROLD: You aren’t the only person living in this house, Rebecca.
REBECCA: I have passion.
HAROLD: And I have a toothache, but that’s life.
REBECCA: I need to practice my instrument.
Harold wiggles his ear again with his finger.
HAROLD: Can’t you practice before I come home?
REBECCA: No.
HAROLD: Why not?
REBECCA: Because I have a process that leads up to my…
Harold wiggles his ear with his finger.
(noticing) Why do you keep putting your finger inside your ear?
HAROLD: Feel like things are muffled in this ear.
REBECCA: Your probably losing your hearing.
HAROLD: I can’t imagine why. I may have cotton wedged deep into my ear because every time you practice I try to keep the sound out.
Harold begins jerking his head to the side, trying to get something out of his ear.
REBECCA: What are you doing?
HAROLD: I like tilting my head to the side and jerking it for your amusement.
Harold continues to jerk his head.
REBECCA: Wait! You’re going to do damage to yourself. Let me have a look.
Rebecca looks inside Harold’s ear.
Yep. I see something white.
HAROLD: Are you serious?
REBECCA: You have what appears to be a piece of white cotton in your ear.
HAROLD: Can you get it out?
