Why the hell are you making so much noise?

In drama scene, “Night Flower” Adel gets woken up by her mother and new guy she’s seeing during the middle of the night.

BEN: What do we have? Want me to make you somethin’?

EVA: I just need water.

Eva pulls water out of the fridge and drinks from the container.

Ben pulls out a green apple.

BEN: Love green apples.

EVA: Eat ’em. We get ’em all the time; nobody eats ’em.

BEN: I’ll eat ’em.

Ben grabs a water bottle from Eva and drinks. He spills some on himself.

Eva laughs.

Ben tries to hand the water bottle over to Eva but it drops to the floor.

EVA: Ha, ha! Shh! Shh!

BEN: Sh’t.

Ben picks up the water bottle. He drops his apple, and it rolls out of his sight.

Eva.

EVA: What?

BEN: Eva?

EVA: What? What?

BEN: Apple went rolling.

EVA: Huh?

BEN: Fk’n apple took off.

Eva looks on the ground.

I was enjoying it.

Door opens stage right. It’s Eva’s daughter, Adel.

ADEL: What the hell are you doing, Mom?

EVA: Uh-oh. Here comes trouble.

ADEL: What is going on?

EVA: (laughing) She’s going to arrest us.

BEN: You seen my apple?

ADEL: Who the f’ck are you?

EVA: He’s Ben. Ben, Adel.

BEN: This…this your sister?

EVA: My daughter.

BEN: Oh, oh –

ADEL (to her mother): Another genius.

EVA (to Adel): You’re just jealous I look so young.

Adel slips on the apple and lands on the floor hard.

ADEL: Ahhh…My back…damn it…

Adel tries to get up.

Eva assists Adel in getting to her feet.

Ben looks for his apple.

Get off me! I’m not dead!

EVA: You alright?

ADEL: No, but YES. I’m fine. I have work in four hours. Why the hell are you making so much noise?

EVA: Sorry, baby, we were just in for a midnight snack.

ADEL: It’s four in the morning!

EVA: Is it?

ADEL: Yes!

EVA: Lost track of time.

Adel leaves the room and slams her door.

BEN: Found it!

Ben holds his green apple up in the air.

Gotta rinse it off.

Ben goes to the sink and rinses off his apple.

EVA (keeping her eyes on her daughter’s bedroom door) (to Ben): Grab me a beer.

BEN: Huh? (turns off the sink)

EVA: Get me a beer from the fridge.

Ben puts the apple in his mouth and looks in the fridge.

He twists cap off beer and walk over to Eva.

BEN: Here ya go.

Eva takes the beer.

Ben bites into his apple.

EVA: I think you should leave.

BEN: Excuse me?

EVA: Why’d you have to drop the apple?

BEN: Why?

EVA: Yeh, why? Why’d you have to drop it and cause a commotion? I told you we needed to be quiet!

BEN: It slipped out my hands, Eva!

EVA: Get out.

BEN: It’s the middle of the night!

EVA: You hurt my daughter.

BEN: What are you talking about?

EVA: You and that damn green apple. It probably pulled her back out again.

BEN: My apple went missing.

EVA: Now she’s gotta suffer, cause a you!

BEN: She just slipped.

EVA: What if her back doesn’t heal this time? What then?

BEN: Is she…she alright?

EVA: She’s got problems with her back…slipped disc or somethin’..now this fall is gonna set her back!

BEN: But is she okay?

EVA: She’ll live. Doesn’t mean you didn’t hurt her.

BEN: It was the apple.

EVA: Where’s your apple?

Eva grabs the apple out of Ben’s hand and throws it into the wall.

There’s your apple.

BEN: You crazy or something?

EVA: Get out!

BEN: I thought we were having a good time.

EVA: Not anymore.

BEN: I have no place to go at this time.

Enter Adel.

ADEL: Why are you shouting?!

The neighbor’s dog starts barking.

EVA: Shhh!

ADEL: Stop yelling!

EVA: You’re waking up the neighbors again!

ADEL: You are!

Ben goes into Eva’s bedroom.

EVA: How’s your back?

ADEL: I’m gonna have to call out sick.

EVA: Again?

ADEL: What do you mean again? It’s cause of you!

EVA: But didn’t they say you can’t take anymore sick days off?

ADEL: I’ve no choice. I’m in pain.
