WALTER: Things always unfold the way in which they must. That is what I’d prefer to believe, anyway. It really is such a waste of time…to think of things being different. What could have been? What should have been? I think that if things matter that much to someone, they will eventually take action. If they do not, well, then it wasn’t meant to be.

There were times we had between us when things could have taken a different turn; call it routine, call it habit, we always tended to drift along the same old path; neither one of us ever making an ample amount of effort to shift the wheel, if you will, not even in the slightest, and that should be okay.

I guess, what I’m trying to say to you, Beverly, is that what happened had to happen the way in which it did happen, for whatever reason, and it’s terribly fine.

I wish for you to know that it’s terribly, terribly fine. This is why I am here. Not for the paperwork, not for us to pretend as though we like one another; only to tell you that…only to tell you, Beverly, that…it’s too much to bear otherwise…if we can agree, at least on that, on some form of acceptance of us, of what we became, that that may be good enough, for the rest of what’s left.

(beat) Beverly?…Mom?…
