Featured Scene – Jerome

JEROME: You had no right to go to my house.

SKYLAR: I had every right.

JEROME: No, right!

SKYLAR: You knew my mother was dead, you pr’ck, and you didn’t tell me!

JEROME: I didn’t want you to lose hope.

SKYLAR: But that’s my lie, NOT YOURS! I have ownership of that lie. I didn’t license it out to you. I didn’t say you could pretend with me. I needed you to know she was alive, because you helped me feel like she was.

JEROME: I was going to tell you.

SKYLAR: When?

JEROME: I don’t know, but I was going to tell you SOON. But if you already knew the truth, what difference would it make whether I told you or not?

SKYLAR: It would have meant that you really cared about me.

JEROME: I do care about you.

SKYLAR: But you kept it from me.

JEROME: Because I was protecting you.

SKYLAR: You were stringing me along, lying to me, like everyone else had. That’s not protecting me, man.

JEROME: I saw how much meeting your mother meant to you; I didn’t want to be the one to destroy your hope.

SKYLAR: It’s already been destroyed. Who told you?

JEROME: Frederick.

SKYLAR: Traitor.

JEROME: He’s not.

SKYLAR: He’s a piece of sh’t traitor!

JEROME: He was drunk. He probably doesn’t even remember what he told me, Sky.

SKYLAR: Wait till I see him. (Losing his breath.)…I’m gonna f’ckin’ kill him.

JEROME: Don’t be stupid.

SKYLAR: (Breathing heavily.) Bust his face wide open!

JEROME: You’re talking stupid.

SKYLAR: BUST HIS FACE WITH, WITH, WITH…

Skylar starts to shake.

JEROME: Calm down, Skylar. You’re gonna have another episode! Chill!

SKYLAR: Tired of all the lies. Can’t trust NO ONE!

Skylar collapses, but is still conscious.

Jerome rushes to his aid.

SKYLAR: Don’t touch me! I’m fine…I’m fine.

Pause.

You’re all I have in my life, man…and you’re gonna leave me…

JEROME: Sky, why are you talking like this?

SKYLAR: Because I know. I know things about this world, things we can’t see but feel.

JEROME: Look, it’s been a rough few days out here. We need to sleep.

SKYLAR: Don’t try to change the subject, man, just so you can get back to Lenora.

JEROME: I’m not going anywhere.

SKYLAR: You’re falling in love with Lenora, you’re gonna get married, you’re gonna have kids and pretend I’ve never existed. I’ll be out your mind; nothin’, none of the times we had, nothin’ will mean anything anymore.

JEROME: We can all be together, Lenora wants to come back with us.

SKYLAR: No way in hell!

JEROME: She needs to leave this place.

SKYLAR: She can’t come!

JEROME: Yes, she can!

SKYLAR: I don’t trust her!

JEROME: You don’t have a say!

SKYLAR: What does she want from you, man? You trust this woman? Who the hell is she anyway? You’ve known this girl for, like, three days.

JEROME: I knew as soon as I looked at her.

SKYLAR: Knew what?

JEROME: How I feel about her.

SKYLAR: We have to take a vote.

JEROME: When we get back home, we’ll all take a vote.

SKYLAR: I’m voting no.

JEROME: Why are you being like this?

SKYLAR: Because you’re rushing things.

JEROME: I don’t care if I’m rushing things.

SKYLAR: Rushing things, and you’re gonna regret it.
