Featured Monologue – Treat Me Nice

CORINNE:ย  Look, I know you havenโ€™t felt well lately.ย  I know that you arenโ€™t wellโ€ฆso it makes it hard for me to tell you thisโ€ฆI wish we were close.ย  I wish we were friends.ย  I, I donโ€™t like waking up in the morning, scrambling your eggs with you shouting obscenities in the background at me about things that donโ€™t deserve shouting.

I understand itโ€™s hard for you.  I get that but you forget that Iโ€™m a person.  Iโ€™m not, you know, some worker that youโ€™ve hired to cook and clean.  I am your daughter.  I donโ€™t feel like Iโ€™m your daughter, but I am, I guess.

These are the cards we were dealt, Mom.

Iโ€™m sorry Iโ€™m not all that you hoped for and that this life we live here together isnโ€™t glamorous and that Dad abandoned us when I was born and you shouldnโ€™t make me feel like itโ€™s my fault!ย  (beat)ย  I didnโ€™t even know the guy.ย  I never even met him and I, I just want to say that I try, you know, I try to be there for you and do all the things a good daughter is supposed to do for her mother but you are so rude and I canโ€™t take it anymore!

(beat)

Be niceโ€ฆto me.ย  Iโ€™m worth enough to be treated nice.ย  Treat me nice before I have an outburst.ย  A real outburst.ย  Iโ€™m talking a sumo outburst.ย  Huge.ย  Soโ€ฆtreat me nice.ย  (beat)ย  Do you want more coffee?
